The judges convene two weeks before the awards ceremony to review all of the finalists’ nominations. They will decide the winners based on the written submissions, so try to include as much information as possible.
Please use the criteria (listed below) of the category you wish to enter to shape your written submission, as the judges will refer to each criteria to guide their decisions. Each written submission should be at least 400 words and a maximum of 600 words. Nominations should be from the UK only. There is no cost to nominate and you can enter as many categories as you wish.
A member of the Data Leadership team will reach out to everyone who nominated around 3 months before the awards ceremony to tell them whether they have been shortlisted as a finalist. The shortlist will be publicly released 3 weeks before the awards ceremony. Good luck!

CHIEF DATA OFFICER OF THE YEAR
A Chief Data Officer who has demonstrated particular innovation, data excellence and leadership in the last 18 months. Judges will look at projects and achievements spanning the current organisation or others if applicable, along with examples of best practice, leadership, ROI generated and alignment to business goals.
DATA SCIENTIST OF THE YEAR
This award will look to celebrate data scientists and their achievements over the last 18 months. Nominations must include examples of successful data-led projects, either with internal or external impacts.
CHIEF DIGITAL OFFICER OF THE YEAR
A Chief Digital Officer who has demonstrated particular innovation, digital excellence and leadership in the last 18 months. Judges will look at projects and achievements spanning the current organisation or others if applicable, along with examples of best practice, leadership, ROI generated and alignment to business goals.
DATA CONSULTANCY OF THE YEAR
This award will recognise a data consultant that has helped clients unlock information about their organisation and their customer data – leading to innovations and business growth, in line with delivering what the end users want.
DATA LEADER OF THE YEAR
An individual who has demonstrated the highest degree of data excellence, innovation and leadership in the last year, and shone a light on the great things data professionals can achieve. Candidates should not only have demonstrated outstanding business- and/or data-focused achievements, but also acted as a positive role model and actively sought to bring more best practice to the data industry.
DATA PROTECTION OFFICER OF THE YEAR
An individual who has helped their organisation successfully comply with regulations, such as GDPR. Strong candidates will demonstrate how they impacted the culture of their organisation, and changed the attitude of employees when it came to data protection.
DATA ANALYST OF THE YEAR
A data analyst who has used their skills (eg. SQL and SAS/R/Python) to deliver successful customer analytics projects. Successful nominations will needs examples, figures and any ROI.
CHIEF SECURITY OFFICER OF THE YEAR
A data security professional who has demonstrated outstanding work in progressing the industry and/or protecting their current organisation from cyber threats
DATA CENTRE PROVIDER OF THE YEAR
A co-location data centre service business that has provided an unparalleled, flexible service to their customers and helped them achieve their business goals.
DATA ANALYTICS FIRM OF THE YEAR
This award will look at organisations that help businesses use data to become more efficient, agile, innovative and successful.
DATA INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR
This category focuses on a specific data initiative or project that has been established to promote best practice in data in a specific company or for the wider community. Judges will assess the impact of this initiative/project and how successful it has been – based on tangible results.
EMPLOYER OF THE YEAR
Either a tech firm that has used data to transform it’s businesses, or a company from any other industry that has transformed its operations through the use of data.
DATA TRANSFORMATION OF THE YEAR
An organisation that has undergone a major and successful data transformation in the last 18 months.
DATA FOR GOOD
This award will recognise a company or person/s who have best applied data for social benefit. The social impact of this data initiative is not isolated to the UK.
RISING STAR OF THE YEAR
An individual who began their career in data in the last five years and has shown great promise that she will go on to achieve great things in the industry. Judges will examine the last 18 months in each candidate’s career, looking at standout achievements, contributions to successful projects, examples of innovation and a demonstrable understanding of how data can create business value.
DATA AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR
Someone who has successfully advocated the use of data in their organisation, so that it is now a core component of business strategy.
DATA LEADER IN AI
A data leader who has demonstrated successful results in emerging technologies, such as AI and ML
BEST DATA TECHNOLOGY PRODUCT OF THE YEAR
This award will look at the best data product of the year. Successful nominations will need to provide ROI use cases on how this product has impacted either customer, or internal productivity.
