25 May 2017 | London

The Data 50 Awards is the UK’s premier initiative for celebrating data leadership and excellence among the sector’s highest achievers. Organised by Information Age magazine, the Data 50 list is updated annually to recognise the top individuals and companies driving data innovation and business value in the enterprise, with ten ‘best in class’ winners revealed at the awards ceremony. The 2017 event will take place on 25 May in London.

The Data 50 Awards honour the people at the forefront of data – those transforming organisations and enhancing decision-making through its use, managing and controlling its proliferating growth, and driving new business value.

The explosion of data – and what can be done with it – has been the most transformational trend to emerge from the digital age. It is also the area where the most groundbreaking technology has been developed.

The pace of innovation in this industry has been rapid, with new ways of generating insight from data springing up regularly. The sale of big data and business analytics software, hardware and services will reach $187 billion by 2019, according to IDC.

Meanwhile, the professionals and executives involved in the deployment of these technologies in enterprises have shown just how impactful their application can be in improving services, driving efficiencies and cost savings, and trailblazing new opportunities for growth.

And while it’s easy to dwell on the ‘sexier’ examples of big data, other cutting-edge technologies have enabled unprecedented ways to build infrastructure that can house and scale its growth – and protecting sensitive information from ever-expanding cyber threats is also a critical consideration.

All functions involved in driving data innovation in the UK are considered, whether it be the vendors creating the technology, the end-users deploying it, or the consultancies or integrators helping them do it.

The Data 50 Awards will return on 25 May 2017. Nominations will open in October 2016, but for more information until then please contact

Nominations for the Data 50 Awards 2017 are now OPEN and will close on 16 December 2016

Nominations that successfully make it onto the 2017 Data 50 will be those that best explain why the individual (and company) embodies the skills and attributes of a data leader and/or innovator. This could include demonstrations of successfully deploying data technologies; improving how a company uses or deals with data; delivering effective data strategies; enhancing decision-making, driving new business value, driving efficiencies and cost savings, or improving services through the use of data; helping a company or companies handle data growth; keeping a company’s or companies’ data secure; driving new innovation in the industry; or furthering knowledge, awareness and education around the subject and related technologies.

The Data 50 list and ‘Best in Class’ winners will be decided based on the written submissions, so try to include as much information as possible. Each written submission should be at least 600 words and a maximum of 1,000 words – nominations fewer than 600 words will not be considered, and anything longer than 1,000 words may be cut down before being sent to the judges. There is no cost to nominate. A member of the Data 50 Awards team will reach out to everyone who nominated in January 2017 to tell them whether they have been shortlisted as a finalist. Good luck!
